Steve & Michelles Baby Coronation Street

steve-michella

Been watching the scenes in Coronation Street closely this week and been a big topic of conversation at R Banks & Son (Funerals Ltd). Sadly these issues are all too real, and there is support out there and some fantastic charities doing work with families affected by stillbirth & neonatal death. SANDS, The Lily Mae Foundation, & Tommy’s who are all funded by charitable donations from the public, and don’t receive as wide spread publicity as some of the bigger charities. We urge anyone who found these scenes even just slightly emotional give what you can to these amazing charities who provide invaluable help to those families at need.

There is also an incentive in place by Angel Wings baby & child loss support provide cuddle cots to local hospitals, children’s hospitals, hospices etc to provide special units called cuddle cots (featured in recent episodes, the blue pipes and unit seen attached to the Moses basket) we at R Banks & Son Funerals Wigan are lucky enough to have been allocated one of these units designed to allow bereaved parents extra time to bond with their baby by using these specially designed climate control cots this Time allows the family to form an important bond with their baby; whether changing a nappy, dressing the baby, taking photographs or simply just staying close and this unquestionably helps families in dealing with their loss. So please if anyone feels they can make a donation to any of the above charities you’d be making a huge difference to someone, you may not realise it but you would.

On the 18th of Jun 2016 8 of the girls here at R Banks & Son took part in this years Race For Life Pretty Muddy® at Avenham Park in Preston.

Pretty Muddy® isn’t like any other fundraising event. It is a muddy obstacle course that women of any ability can climb over, crawl under, and charge through to show cancer that hell hath no fury like a woman in pink, and our girls didn’t disappoint!

Every two minutes someone in the UK is diagnosed with cancer.

Cancer Research UK,  are world leaders in finding new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer. They want to create more tomorrows for more people which is why They’re  determined to beat cancer sooner.

They receive no Government funding for our research. Their life-saving work relies on the money that you raise through sponsorship. It is from the support through events like Race for Life that helps them continue  ground-breaking work and help more people survive cancer.

How your money can help Cancer Research UK

Each step we make towards beating cancer relies on each pound donated. Here are some examples of how the money you raise in sponsorship – big or small – can help us become cancer’s worst nightmare:

  • £5 kits one of our research labs out with essential chemicals.
  • £8 kits out our scientists with a lab timer, helping them to find out what makes a cancer cell tick.
  • £20 buys a lab coat, box of gloves and goggles. Not only geek chic, but vital items to help our scientists carry out life-saving research.
  • £30 covers the cost of a cervical cancer trial for one day.
  • £70 pays for a Bunsen burner to help ignite ground-breaking research on a daily basis.
  • £180 pays for one day of a trial to discover faster diagnosis and new therapies to treat brain cancer.
  • £300 buys a hotplate to warm special solutions, turning up the temperature on ground-breaking research.
  • £400 is the cost of running Cancer Chat for one day helping thousands of people through very difficult times.

Our team raised over £600 on this event alone, and had some fun along the way. This is the first fund raising event of the year but certainly wont be the last, we are looking to attend many more to raise more money to support research into finding a cure for this despicable disease.

Funeral Plans By R Banks & Son Funerals.

Golden_Charter_Logo

We understand that it’s hard to think about your funeral. But here at R Banks & Son Funerals, we offer Golden Charter Funeral Plans, which are a safe, simple way to plan ahead that can save your family worry and expense. It can also really help make things easier for your loved ones at a difficult time. And as our plan holders often tell us, that can be a big weight off your mind.

How do funeral plans work?

A funeral plan allows you to pay the cost of the funeral director’s services at today’s prices and gives you more control over your funeral arrangements. We believe it’s important for you to get the funeral you want, and for your family to receive a genuinely personal service when it really counts. So when you purchase your plan you can rest assured that we will personally take care of every single one of your requests. When the time comes, just one phone call to us will activate your plan. Everything will then be carried out according to your wishes.

Why should I get a funeral plan?

Some reasons as to why it is important to have a funeral plan in place.

Avoid rising funeral costs.

Nobody wants their family to face money worries in the future. But funeral costs have risen by 88% over the last ten years, and while the average cost of a funeral in 2004 was £1,920, by 2014 it was £3,609*. At this rate, the average cost of a funeral in 2024 could be more than £6,800. *The average cost of a funeral in the UK. Source: Mintel 2014.

Peace of mind for you and your family.

At a stressful time, it could help your family avoid difficult decisions – and prevent any financial worries over how to pay for the funeral costs.

Save money by acting today.

That’s why it pays to act now. With a plan from Golden Charter, no matter how much the price of your funeral director’s services increase in the future, your family will have nothing more to pay for the services included in your plan – guaranteed. And the sooner you take out a plan, the greater the saving could be.

What’s included in a funeral plan?

  • The funeral director’s services
  • Advice on the certification and registration of the death and related documentation
  • The coffin
  • Transportation of the deceased to a suitable resting place within a 15 mile radius
  • Care of the deceased prior to burial or cremation
  • Use of a chapel of rest or service rooms
  • A hearse to a local cemetery or crematorium
  • Confidential assistance with bereavement counselling, if required
  • A Will for you, a family member or a friend which will be reviewed by our legal team.

Taking out a plan for a loved one

If you wish, you can take out a funeral plan for someone else in your family. All you need to do is complete the ‘plan holder’s representative’ section of the application process. If you prefer not to discuss this with your loved one, we guarantee complete confidentiality unless you choose to pay by fixed monthly payments in which case the plan holder will be contacted directly by AXA Wealth Ltd.

Your investment is protected

Golden Charter are proud to be registered with the Funeral Planning Authority and follow their Code of Practice. Also, we’re the only funeral plan provider recommended by the National Society of Allied & Independent Funeral Directors (SAIF). With a Golden Charter Funeral Plan, your payments are completely protected. Your money is paid into the Golden Charter Trust, which is run by an independent Board of Trustees who manage the Trust’s funds on behalf of our plan holders and safeguard future payments to funeral directors. When the time comes, the funeral director’s services included in your plan are guaranteed to be covered.  Or paid to a UK life assurance company for the fixed monthly payment option.

Robin Williams Funeral

Robin Williams Funeral www.rbanksandson.co.uk

Following the sad news of the recent death of a much loved Hollywood actor, it now remains to be seen as to whether he has the type of Hollywood funeral we have now become accustomed to seeing broadcast live on the TV, or whether his family will wish to mourn in private.

Robin Williams was one of my all time favourite actors, and some of my favourites growing up were Mrs Doubtfire & Jumanji, but recently I discovered an older film in which he starred alongside Robert De Niro In awakenings, a movie based on the real life story of Oliver Sacks, a neurologist who discovers how to awaken catatonic patients from their current state using new medicines.

His death shocked and saddened many the world over, but what came more of a shock to some is that a man who had once amassed a personal fortune of over £75million had been suffering such financial difficulties that it contributed to his decision to take his own life. It’s hard to believe that someone so famous, with such wealth could be left in a position where he felt bereft of any other option. It leads me to the question that if someone so famous can find themselves in that position, then what about us?

Funeral costs whether expected or otherwise can catch anyone off guard, and if you were to lose a loved one today, could you fund the whole costs of a funeral without worry? Or if anything was to happen to you, would you wish your family to be put into a position where they had to worry?

These are two questions we base our additional services around, and our services now include:

  • Pre Payment or pre paid funeral plans.
  • And Finance for funerals

FINANCE FOR FUNERALS:

“Helping to ease the financial burden”

Funeral finance benefits:

PRE PAYMENT FUNERAL PLANS:

Many people wish to provide for their funeral expenses and a funeral prepayment plan is a caring, sensible and cost effective way to do so

“Most of us as we get older; expect to provide the money to meet our funeral expenses. It’s to do with independence and responsibility: leaving everything in order for our relatives and friends. We don’t often talk about it – because there’s no need to- but the fact is that funerals cost money, and we want to take care of the cost.”

The advantage of a pre payment plan over a savings account or life insurance policy is that you can pay now at today’s price and beat inflation no matter when the service might be required. The funeral directors fees will be paid when the funeral has been provided. Funeral prepayment plans are provided by Funeral Planning services in association with a network of independent family owned funeral directors throughout the UK. Funeral prepayments are held in funeral planning trust and are monitored by the funeral planning authority

-The advantages of prepayment funeral plans:

-You can choose your own funeral arrangements for peace of mind

-You save your family from having to make a difficult decision and trying to guess what you would have wanted

-Avoid rising funeral costs with an inflation proof guarantee of the funeral directors costs

-Financial security – the funeral payment is held in funeral planning trust until it is needed

-The service will be provided by your local funeral director

-There is no age limit and no awkward health questions

-You can make a once only payment or pay by monthly instalments, whichever suits you best

The Tina McIntyre Funeral, Coronation Street.

R Banks & Son Funerals Ltd

Tina

Next week will once again see many viewers drawn to yet another soap opera funeral, this time as the street bids farewell to one of its younger characters, Tina McIntyre, we will yet again see a cortege roll down its famous cobbles.

The representation of the funeral will be a side issue for those in the profession, but the real question which people should be asking is how does a part time bar maid working only a few shifts a week in a local pub, whom has no family of which to speak, and who only last week couldn’t afford a train fare to Portsmouth leave enough behind financially to pay for a funeral?

Unfortunately its becoming all too easy for us as funeral directors to answer, she can’t. Irrespective of whether or not Tina McIntyre was a fictional character, funeral costs are all too real.

That’s why R Banks…
